In the serene corners of Pennsylvania, where the skies paint an ever-changing tapestry, resides an artist whose journey is as captivating as her creations. Anita Duhon, a name synonymous with vibrant illustrations and evocative skies, has spent a lifetime embracing her passion for art. Her story is a testament to the enduring power of creativity and the pivotal role of quality art supplies like the Golden State Art picture matboard in shaping an artist's vision.

The Spark of Talent

Anita's journey began in the unassuming halls of junior high school. Recognized by her teachers for her exceptional talent, she embarked on a path that initially led her to college with the intention of becoming a commercial artist. However, as fate would have it, her journey took an unexpected turn. "I quit in my first year probably because my father felt I was 'wasting my intellect,'" Anita reflects. Despite this, her passion for art never waned, remaining a beloved hobby as she found success in the corporate world.

A Lifelong Passion

After years in Ohio and a significant stint in Mexico City during high school, Anita returned to her roots in Pennsylvania. Now retired, she dedicates her days to creating art in her home studio. "I have a studio in my house where I can spend all day doing what I love - creating," she says. This space is a sanctuary where creativity flows freely, unhindered by the constraints of a corporate career.

The Influence of Heritage and Mentors

Anita's artistic inclination may be a familial trait. "My father was able to draw so perhaps that influenced me to try it," she notes. Encouraged by several teachers, Anita discovered her natural talent for illustration, which became the foundation for exploring various mediums. Her inspiration also stems from art history, particularly the works of Gustav Klimt. "The Kiss is one of my favorites. I love his use of gold and design in his figurative works," Anita shares.

Faces and Skies: The Artistic Focus

Anita's art often features unusual faces and colorful skies, elements that have fascinated her since she began painting. "Certainly, my early experience drawing portraits might explain my attachment to faces," she muses. The challenge of capturing the ephemeral beauty of skies has also captivated her, pushing her skills to new heights. "I am drawn to unusual faces and colorful skies. I am not sure why that is. Once I started painting, I suppose I began to like skies as they posed a challenge to my skill and they always draw me in when I see them in nature."

The Drive to Create

What drives Anita is not just the act of creation but the continuous pursuit of improvement.

"I am inspired by my own motivation to create a piece that demonstrates my improvement,"

"Practice, practice, practice and try to learn as much as you can from others," she advises aspiring artists. Her preferred method of learning is through watching videos of other artists, finding visual demonstration more impactful than verbal instruction.

The Role of Technology and Tools

The advent of online resources has revolutionized how artists like Anita access tools and inspiration. "The speed at which I can obtain my art tools is so beneficial," she notes, highlighting the convenience of online shopping, especially during the pandemic. Among the essential tools in her arsenal is the Golden State Art picture matboard, a product that enhances the presentation and preservation of her artwork. Its quality and reliability ensure that her vibrant creations remain protected and beautifully displayed.
