Artist Spotlight: Becky Zoni-McMakin

Becky Zoni-McMakin is an artist, interior designer, and educator based in San Diego county. “I am an Interior Designer and educator based in San Diego county. I have always loved creating in any way possible and have been experimenting with pastel and pencil as well as adding acrylic painting. When I am not teaching design, designing a corporate space or a residential kitchen or bathroom, I enjoy creating one of a kind art.”

Becky has loved art her entire life. “I have always been interested in art and majored in fine art prior to changing my major to Interior Design. After raising my kids I became more interested in creating art. I now consider myself not only an interior designer, but also an artist.” As an artist, she enjoys the freedom art affords. “I love the free expression that art provides. There are no rules and this allows an intuitive expression that only the artist can create.” She enjoys depicting water most in her work. “I not only enjoy drawing water, but think my best work has some form of water depicted. I enjoy drawing water in any state, whether it is a lake, ocean or in a glass. It is so interesting to see and interpret how the light moves through it.”

When beginning a new project or piece, Becky is often inspired by the drive to give loved ones gifts. “I typically create art as gifts for loved ones. Drawing a piece that is tailored as a gift creates meaning for not only the recipient, but also inspires me.” To aspiring artists, Becky encourages not giving up. “Don't stop creating art because you feel you have to focus on a career. Art brings joy to you and those that experience it.” Becky discovered Golden State Art through a search on the internet. “Your frames are a great way to showcase my art.”
