Artist Spotlight: JJ Hogan
JJ Hogan is an artist based in Alexandria, Virginia. “Once a scribbler, always a scribbler... Alexandria, Virginia is my home and the center of my design world. I always wanted to be an artist. I have decades of graphic design and fine painting experience that has influenced the style I have today.” To shop and read more about her, visit her website goldenlinesandsilverlinings.com.
JJ was inspired to begin creating art growing up spending time at the beach. “The first thing that comes to mind is making drip sandcastles, exploring the tidepools and swimming in the deep blue Pacific Ocean growing up. How could I possibly make anything that compared to the beauty and mystery of the world around me. Making art has always given me a purpose in life.” As an artist, she most enjoys composition in artwork. “Creating a tension or energy even if the image has a static or stationary quality to it.”

JJ enjoys the work of Matisse and Raoul Dufy. “If I were to choose, it might be The Goldfish by Matisse and anything by Raoul Dufy.” In her own work she enjoys depicting nature. “Land: mountains, rivers, lakes… Sea: all things related to sailing, boating and nautical life... and Botanicals: flower shops, floral design and gardens seem to rotate like the seasons in my work.” When beginning a new project or piece she is often inspired by the weather. “If I can get out for a walk, be on/near the water or simply out in the sunshine I will be inspired!”

To aspiring artists, JJ encourages never giving up. “Don't quit!! Create what inspires YOU!! Not what you think people want you to create. The true essence of your style will come to life.” She discovered Golden State Art many years ago when looking for items for her artwork. “I have used Golden State frames and materials for years. The website and Amazon are great resources. You provide quality products that are affordable yet elevate and showcase the art I make.”
