Artist Spotlight: Tom Hwang
Tom is a longtime client who has been visiting our office in South San Francisco for years. In the process, he has become a valued client and friend, so we wanted to hear his story on not only his journey with us, but his journey in photography.
How did you get started in photography?
I got started in photography after I became a graphic designer. I started doing graphic art work and people kept asking me how I was taking photos. So I picked up a camera to see if I could take the photos like I did in my graphic art and I liked it, so I started taking more photos and that’s how I got into it.
What is your favorite thing or place to photograph?
My favorite thing to photograph is nature. I especially like photographing colorful birds.
What tips/advice would you give to aspiring photographers?
The tip or advice I would give to aspiring photographers is to try and try again until you get the shot you like. Keep practicing to have more control of your camera.
What is one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I had known more about how to control lights with my camera.
What are some of your favorite photography equipment pieces to use?
For me, the camera lens is the most important and favorite equipment. It’s not the camera that makes the photo, the lens captures the image.
How did you first hear about Golden State Art?
A friend referred me.
What is the main product you use from us and why?
I get my matted frames from you guys. I like how you can custom cut frames to any size
