The Traveling Mat: Strolling the Streets of St. Augustine

This month we visited St. Augustine, a small historical town on the Florida coast, an hour outside of Jacksonville. With our mat board in tow, we walked the streets visiting the historical sights, shopping, and dining the town has to offer. We thought we’d share a little more about the history of St. Augustine, and why we think it’s worth visiting!

St. Augustine is known as the first city established in the continental United States. Founded by Spanish settlers on September 8, 1565, the town’s signature Spanish architecture and historical sights display this proudly. From Castillo de San Marcos, a historical fort, to Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, there are many spots from which visitors can take in and learn more about the history of this beautiful town. Today, St. Augustine sees over 6 million visitors per year, and is the perfect destination for anyone looking to take a step back in time.
