Rainer Neumann is an artist of many talents, and our Client Spotlight this week. Photography, painting, poetry, books, songwriting, Rainer has created and published all of these art forms over the years. Currently residing in Half Moon Bay, California, he spent 30+ years in San Francisco and started a graphic design business in 1979. He also published an art magazine entitled “Canticle,” as well as several fiction, pastel, and watercolor books. Rainer’s creativity, like many artists, began in his childhood. “I played creatively in my childhood (before TV even) – I made my own stamp album, wooden toys, and models (oil well, stagecoach, fort}.” He continued to create and be inspired by the world around him in his art, using it as a platform to recognize and respond to those surroundings. “I am responding to world issues, letting creative solutions (images and poetry) percolate, usually through the night, seeing potential in the world around me i.e. in materials, images and music.

Rainer works to emphasize the beauty of the scene before him in his painting and photography. He also sometimes combines different creative pieces. “My attempt is to bring out beauty and transience. I usually include a haiku with my images.”
Rainer finds inspiration from experiences, photos and places. “My prevalence is nature inspired images and poetic subjects. Currently I am inspired by photos of travels and hikes in scenic, wild and inspiring places.” For aspiring artists, Rainer says to, “see potential in all things and people around you – nature and materials have their stories as do people.”

Currently, Rainer is working on finishing a poetry book entitled “Intersections of Concern” that includes many of his images. He has a current exhibit at HMB Coffee Company and at the Coastal Art Gallery, as well as two previous exhibits, Cafe Society 2017 and Ebbtide Cafe 2018.
Rainer found Golden State Art during his search for mat board, frames, and other supplies for his work. He has visited our office in South San Francisco many times and we enjoy discussing his work and finding the perfect supplies for him.
